If you are a registered nurse with a master’s degree and meet our admission requirement, a unique opportunity will be offered to you at IUGS. You may have already earned the additional credits above the master’s degree needed to earn a Ph.D. or a D.N.P.

Degree Requirements

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.)

  • A current, active,unrestricted registered nursing (R.N.) license or N.P.license in the U.S. or its territories.
  • A substantial professional portfolio.
  • A master's degree or higher.  The master degree's must be from an NLN or CCNE accredited institution.
  • 103 credits* for the Ph.D. or 97* credits for the D.N.P. which include the following:  

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

  • 76 post-baccalaureate graduate credits (or its equivalent)* in transfer, prior to, or after admission.
  • Research and Design, I, II. (6 credits)**
  • The 7 day Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts. (3 credits)
  • A Dissertation and Oral Defense. (18 Credits)

Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.)

  • 70 post-baccalaureate graduate credits* in transfer, prior to, or after admission.
  • Research and Design, I, II. (6 credits)**
  • The 7 day Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts. (3 credits)
  • A Project and Oral Examination. (18 Credits)

*All relevant graduate credit, including those credits from graduate degrees, as well as approved graduate level, continuing education, certification and licensing coursework.

** Distance Learning.

Tuition (Includes: advisement, library fees, the Graduate Seminar, workshops, Research and Design I,II, the mentor dissertation fee, the external and internal reviews of the project or the dissertation, the oral project examination or the oral dissertation defense and the printing and binding of the project or the dissertation.)1

On a part-time basis, most candidates are anticipated to complete their degree requirements within eighteen months. The determining criteria are dedication and the candidate’s previous academic and professional portfolio.
